Saadat Hasan Manto was born in the Ludhiana district of Punjab, British India on May 11, 1912. The year 2012 marked the author’s birth centenary. Manto wrote a series of radio plays under the title Aao in 1940. In May 2012, Zambeel presented three plays under the title “Aao Manto Sunein”. This year, they shall revisit the title with the addition of a fourth play to the series.
Each play presents delightful banter between husband and wife Kishore and Lajvanti, and their friend Narayan. Light-hearted and animated in nature, these lesser known plays represent the writer in a different light.
Aao Chori Karein presents the delightful confusion that is caused between Kishore, Lajvanti, Narayan and Mrs Narayan when Kishore’s plan to steal a parcel belonging to Narayan backfires.
Aao Kahani Likhein is a battle of wits between Kishore and Lajvanti as they plan to script a story with Narayan as the scribe. Who wins the battle ultimately? Does Narayan manage to save the day?
Aao Taash Khaylein puts Lajvanti in a dilemma as she begins a game of cards with Kishore only to find that he has other plans up his sleeve. She finds herself instead at the mercy of Narayan who is more than enthusiastic about a new card game he has learnt and is adamant to show it to his disinterested friends.
Aao Baat Tau Suno presents Kishore with a series of tasks on a restful Sunday. Will Kishore manage to fulfill everyone’s wishes and yet maintain his sanity?
