What’s Up, Doc?
It’s World Laughter Day this Sunday … so a good old screwball comedy is our pick for the week. What’s Up, Doc? fits the bill perfectly. Peter Bogdanovich has achieved a rare treat with this near-slapstick offering: a really well acted comedy!
Ryan O’Neal and Barbra Streisand deliver fascinating performances and Madeline Kahn is unforgettable as Eunice, the controlling, easily-flustered wife. Liam Dunn all but steals the show in a brief appearance as the Judge. Even the minor parts are played perfectly such as those of the scheming hotel manager and house detective. For those who saw “Love Story” there is also a one line spoof to watch out for.
