Join us at T2F for a feast of eastern classical vocals featuring Urooj Naseer Saami.
The Dilli Qavaal Bacchon ka Gharana was founded in the 13th century by Saamat Bin Ibrahim, a disciple of Hazrat Amir Khusrau. The Gharana has produced a number of critically acclaimed musicians, including Ustad Tanrus Khan, tutor and court musician to Bahadur Shah Zafar. Urooj Naseer Saami is a descendant of this rich musical lineage and his style has been greatly influenced by the languid, pure approach of Tanras Khan Sahab and his father, Ustad Naseeruddin Saami.
Urooj Naseer Saami received early training and mentorship by his maternal grandfather, Munshi Raziuddin Ahmed and his uncle, Nizamuddin Saami. His vocal training is now supervised by his illustrious father, Ustad Naseeruddin Saami. He has been performing with his father, across Pakistan and internationally, for over 15 years. Urooj also teaches at the Tanrus Academy of Vocal Training, founded by Ustad Naseerudin Saami.
Urooj will be accompanied by the quintessential Ustad Bashir Khan on tabla, Rauf Naseer Saami on harmonium, as well as Azeem Naseer Saami and Ahmed Naseer Saami on tamboora.
Seats are limited and will be available on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. No reservations.
