“Khooné Tamanna Darya Darya”

Join us at Faraar for an exhibition of works by Salman Hassan
Opening Date: Monday, 7 February 2011 | 6:00 pm

My current series of work has been inspired by two of Faiz Ahmed Faiz’s famous poems, “Subhé Aazaadi” and “Lahoo Ka Süraagh”. These poems have left a deep impression on my work. The poetic expressions used by Faiz Sahab have great similarity to the current situation of our society and the struggle to survive in these times. When I think of the words, feelings and expressions, the meaning of the poem in its entirety translates into my work.

Perhaps the viewers will look at my work with some other perspective, but that will be their personal experience. Perhaps the artist and the viewer come to a point of unification at some place … perhaps not. I leave this decision to you.

Khooné Tamanna Darya Darya

Beloved of the masses and the elite alike, Faiz Ahmed Faiz is surely the most widely read poet of our times. Salman Hassan has been inspired by this marvellous poet but in his unique way. Transforming words into pigments, he brings out the hidden colours of the poem, opening up and celebrating the beautiful images in a way which makes you wonder if the painting was commenting upon the poem or was the poem illustrating the lines.
