Dr. Clarence Lusane will talk about how jazz has been politically and ideologically appropriated by a wide range of social groups throughout the international community.
Dr. Clarence Lusane is Associate Professor of Political Science and International Relations in the School of International Service at American University and an expert on Minority Rights. He is also an author, activist, scholar, lecturer, and journalist. For over 30 years, he has written about and been active in national and international human rights, anti-racism politics, globalization, U.S. foreign policy, and social issues such as education, crime, and drug policy. He has lectured and presented papers at a wide range of colleges and universities including Harvard, Georgetown, University of California-Berkeley, University of Chicago, Yale, London School of Economics, and University of Paris. Dr. Lusane is currently Co-chair of the Civil Society Committee for the US-Brazil Joint Action Plan to Eliminate Racial Discrimination, a bi-lateral agreement involving governments and civil society.
