BASTA – a film inspired by Intizar Hussain’s works
What if you wake up in a strange cafe one night and don’t remember how long you’ve been there and whose bag it is you’re holding onto? What if the color of your clothes doesn’t match your bag, and you do not know how long you had been asleep? And what if you meet a strange man who claims you know him, but you don’t?
About the Film:
“Basta” is LUMS Media Arts Society’s annual film which is first of its kind in Pakistan due to its experimental nature. This half an hour long minimalist short by the makers of last year’s acclaimed Mabel aur Mein explores ideas of time, fate and ego through two characters stuck in a room. It will be followed by a brief talk/networking/Q&A session with the makers about the ideas behind the film and its making, the state of student independent filmmaking in Pakistan and how to shoot a film against all odds.
About the Society:
Founded by Bilal Lashari the director of Waar and the much awaited Maula Jutt, the LUMS Media Arts Society (LMA) has for many years been producing quality feature length and short films which have gone on to Pakistan wide screenings as well as film festivals. It promotes student and independent filmmaking throughout Pakistan. LMA’s members have made music videos for acclaimed local indie music bands and artists and look forward to collaborations with other filmmakers and film buffs.
