Bindiya Chamkay Gi is a short documentary-narrative focusing on the life of Bindiya Rana – an outspoken member of the Khwaja Sira (or Hijra) Community in Karachi. The film traces a day in her life and portrays the legal, social and cultural challenges that her community faces in present-day Pakistan. Bindiya Chamkay Gi is Ragni Kidvai’s first complete film, and is part of an academic thesis-project focusing on the Khwaja Sira Community in Karachi.
After the screening, Bindiya will talk about her new organization, GIA, and the work they are doing in the areas of transgender rights and social justice.
About Ragni Kidvai
Born in Karachi, Pakistan, Ragni Kidvai has been politically active from an early age. Starting with a high school internship at a video-production house, she has been using the media as a tool for social justice work ever since. Ragni went to Hampshire College in the US to study Political Philosophy with a focus on Identity Politics and Video Production. Ragni now lives and works in New York.
