[Artistes Come Together for T2F] Usman Riaz’s ‘Making Waves & Creating a Ruckus’

Thursday, August 28th, 2014

Saturday, 30th August and Sunday 31st August 2014 | 7:00 pm

Join us at T2F for the screening of Making Waves & Creating a Ruckus, a documentary chronicling the works of Usman Riaz.

Usman Riaz

TEDGlobal Fellow Usman Riaz is a musician making a worldwide mark with his astonishing and fun-to-listen-to technique. Influenced by percussive guitarists who move beyond strumming to striking, treating their fretboard like the soundboard of a piano, Usman makes a sound that feels larger than the instrument itself, with a compelling pattern of repetition and variation that harkens to mystical music traditions. Usman began playing classical piano at the age of six and taught himself to play a variety of instruments using the Internet as a learning tool. In 2011, a viral video for his song “Fire Fly” helped bring his sound from the small-but-thriving Pakistani music community to a global audience. Usman is also a composer, filmmaker and visual artist.

As part of the “Artistes Come Together for T2F” fundraising series, Usman will present Making Waves & Creating a Ruckus; a documentary chronicling his musical work from TED, Circus in the Sky and beyond, and the debut of his orchestral piece, Blue Moon Waltz.

Film Screening: Connecting and Makers

Monday, August 25th, 2014

Wednesday, 27th August 2014 | 7:00 pm

Join us at T2F for a screening of “Connecting” and “Makers”, two short films exploring trends in interaction and experience design.

What is Interaction Design?
Connecting explores this question with some of the industry’s foremost thought leaders. When digital and physical worlds become one, new behaviors become possible, enabling connected humans with a collective capacity to change the world.

Why do we ‘make’?
Makers examines how the connected world is changing the nature of creativity. When everyone is a maker, new possibilities emerge, but with them come new responsibilities about digital transparency, cultural awareness, and the role of the designer.

The screening will be followed by a discussion with the audience, led by Ahmed Ansari, Interaction Designer and Assistant Professor at SZABIST.
