Speed Meet with FRESH! Artists + Head Transformations by Alee’ Hassan

Monday, March 31st, 2014

Friday, 11th April 2014 | 7:00 pm

Head Transformations

Young talent had Karachi mesmerized when 68 artists exhibited their work at the Amin Gulgee Gallery in March, 2014. Aptly titled FRESH!, the exhibition pulsated with the raw energy of this new crop of artists aged 30 and under, drawn from all over Pakistan. Now, at the Artist Speed Meet at T2F!, a selection of FRESH! participants will discuss their individual experiences as young, exhibiting Pakistani artists.

Alee’ Hassan who also participated in FRESH! will display selections from his new work, titled Head Transformations. Hailing from Gujrat, Alee’ uses photography to give viewers a window into his imagination and has developed a distinct style which he describes as the meeting point between the end of imagination and the beginning of reality. Alee’ uses a fusion of artistic choices and techniques to communicate underlying messages through his images, and is carving a niche for himself in the genre of fashion photography.

Alee’ will showcase prints, create live installations featuring two other FRESH! artists, Ali Mirchi and Sara Pagganwala and will also screen a video as part of his exhibit.

Join us at T2F for a panel discussion with local entrepreneurs and evangelists working to create a culture of entrepreneurship and innovation, involving them in a conversation on how they see the creative and innovation industries evolving in Pakistan.

What does it take to create a culture of creative innovation? Where do groundbreaking ideas come from? How do we encourage a culture of research in industry practices? How can we help seed more business ventures? Should young people be given more chances in driving the vanguard of change through new products and services?

The Creative Mind

All these questions and more will be answered in Designing the Future: The Past, Present and Future of Creative Innovation in Pakistan.

Our panelists include Athar Osama, Abid Beli, Mashall Chaudhri, Usman Siddiqui and Yahya Farooqui. The series will be introduced by Ahmed Ansari and the session will be moderated by Salman Abedin, with plenty of time for audience interaction.

Fall and Winter is an epic and spectacularly photographed journey across the U.S. in search of what is causing our unfolding global crisis. Pollution, droughts and diminishing resources now threaten the very engine driving these catastrophes: civilization itself. Massive dislocations are manifesting in our lifetime, and our world will never be the same.

Celebrating Perween Rahman: A Symbol of Resistance

Tuesday, March 4th, 2014

Saturday, 8th March 2014 | 7:00 pm

Join us at T2F for the fourth session of The Perween Rahman Lecture Series, instituted to keep Perween’s voice and legacy alive and to continue talking about the issues closest to her heart.

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Zubeida Mustafa, Zohra Yusuf, Tasneem Siddiqui and Aquila Ismail will discuss Perween’s resistance against the myriad injustices faced by the poor in obtaining their inalienable right to housing, education and water. We are resolute in our belief that standing up for accountability in Perween’s murder case will set a precedent for others to rise up and resist inequality, indignity, and above all, injustice.

Perween Rahman

Perween Rahman was one of Pakistan’s brightest lights. A renowned social worker, urban planner, and architect, Perween spent decades working on poverty alleviation projects with the guiding philosophy of ‘apni madad aap’ (help yourself). On 13th March 2013, Perween was murdered by armed assailants while returning home from work. Her death has been mourned across Pakistan and the social development world.
